Choosing a career in Cyber Security: Roles as a Cybersecurity Professional

For many years, cybersecurity has been one of the hottest career roles. Companies around the world have been regularly targeted since the turn of the millennium, from cyber-attacks to security breaches. This environment has created numerous chances for those looking to enter the security field.

 

Roles as a Cybersecurity Professional

There are numerous paths to becoming a cybersecurity professional. To begin, one must begin with an entry-level position in the sector and equip themselves with the necessary training and knowledge to achieve various levels of advancement. Because of the increased need, cybersecurity professionals should expect rapid development.

Many job opportunities exist for cybersecurity specialists throughout industries, including banking, education, content management, and IT services. The numerous job roles to begin a career in cybersecurity are as follows -

 

1. Security Architect 

The Security Architect is in charge of security system planning, implementation, and testing. They are in charge of safeguarding data against hackers, malware, and DDoS attacks. Because this is a senior-level role, sufficient training and certification are required. The security architect's role is to defend the network using appropriate firewalls.

 

2. Security Consultant 

The Security Consultant is a versatile and technologically skilled individual who secures the organization's data and money. They comprehend and examine numerous security methods in a variety of fields. The Security Consultant decides on several tests, such as vulnerability, to safeguard the computer, network, and data. They can also provide technical assistance as needed.

 

3. Penetration Tester 

A Penetration Tester finds the weaknesses and loopholes in the system that hackers can use. They are also called Ethical Hackers. They have a range of tools to test the network, web application, or product. They also document the research and findings to be helpful in the future.

 

4. Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) 

This is a high-level position in which you will be in charge of a team of Security Officers. You have the ability to design your own security measures. Because this is an advanced function, you will also be required to cooperate with other stakeholders in determining the system's security. Proper training and certification are absolutely required.

 

5. Cryptographer 

Cryptographers are security system professionals who are in charge of creating code that hackers cannot decipher. If you enjoy coding, this is a mid-senior-level position that you will appreciate.

 

6. Security Analyst

As a Security Analyst, you will be responsible for planning and implementing various security measures. You examine and document the system's security and identify vulnerable points. If you want to work in cybersecurity, this is an entry-level position.

 

7. Security Engineer 

A Security Engineer is in charge of rebuilding the organization's security system. They put in place the required safeguards to protect the system. If you want to work in cybersecurity, this is an entry-level position.
